Dot Peen Latest Crime Prevention Initiative in Preston 08/04/2017

If you follow our Facebook page you may have seen my post recently about our latest crime prevention kit in the Neighbourhood Officer. This is a portable property marking system called Dot Peen, although it has some similarities it isn’t the same as the “old bike coding kit”. Dot Peen is not exclusively for bikes; in fact it can mark with the exception of glass & ceramics, almost any material. We won’t be putting postcodes on items, we’ll be giving items unique reference numbers and from there they’ll be uploaded to the National Property Register Immobilise, but wait there’s more! Once an item is on the register you’ll get an account with Immobilise that you can log into at any time, allowing you to update your details, your item details and even upload pictures of the items all for FREE.
You may ask why you should bother with Property marking; it is an important tool to help us identify lost and stolen property & take action against those that handle stolen goods, this makes acquisitive crimes such as burglary more difficult as valuables become harder to sell one once stolen. In addition to police officers & PCSO’s being able to interrogate the National Property Register on the go using our constabulary issued smartphones / laptops, 2nd hand shops can also have a very limited access to the database, although they don’t see personal details they can tell if an item has been reported stolen.
